Dear Diary,

   Today, the weirdest thing happened! I was walking to my little garden on deck, when I thought I saw something teal out of the corner of my eye, but when I looked, it was gone. I decided that it must be a trick of the light and ignored it. Later, the same thing happened! When I told Mel, she said that she had seen the same thing. Later, I was walking around some more, as there was nothing for me to do, when I bumped into Dr. MacCormick. He started ranting about how he was better than Darwin as a Naturalist, and if I could help him prove it.
   Just as he was getting loudest, I saw a teal-glowing, crying smiley like on a message board. It floated right in front of Hilot, and he didn't seem to notice anything strange at all! It bumped into Melamina, though, and she noticed it.
   I ran away from Dr. MacCormick, whom I was ignoring, and chased after it. It just started to float faster. Mel was chasing after it too, and then it disappeared, and I heard the sound of a small object falling to the deck. I looked closer, and I saw a tiny diamond—no bigger than a hair—on the deck. Mel whacked it with her staff, and a Stofer portal opened. I looked at Melamina, who shrugged, and walked through the portal.
   I ended up in a storeroom, and noticed Hilot again—how did he get there?—and the smiley just floated right through him. I ran around him, and ended up in the room where the crew sleeps (not sure what thatąs called) with the Smiley just floating around.
    "What's the matter?" I asked, as the tears just kept rolling down its face. But it didnąt answer, just kept staring and crying. I had no idea what to do. Melamina showed up again, and saw the smiley, which just kept floating around, but with a decisive distance between it and Mel. "What did you do to it?" I asked. "It doesn't seem to like you!"
    "I didn't do anything to it!" she said. "I think it's scared of me because I have my staff." She walked out of the room, and the smiley came closer to me. I looked at it, with a questioning look on my face, and it stopped crying. Then, it began to smile, and then its right eye closed in a wink, and it disappeared, this time with no diamond falling on the floor. If I can find some explanation for where it came from or where it went, I will write it down, but until then, it will remain a mystery.
    Also, Mr. X has been acting strange lately. He keeps muttering about a bird. I think he might be training some sort of bird to attack people. I hope he doesn't set it on Darwin, because then biology would be changed forever! I do wonder what he will do with that bird.
    Nothing else exciting happened, except apparently, R. H. Taylor mauled Darwin over a rock!
