Dear Mother,
I am really happy today. Poenas blister's healed!
Wait, I didn't tell you that Poena got a blister that was infected. Well, now
it is healed. She is happy, too.
It is cold, so for breakfast I will always wrap Poena
in a nice warm blanket. Fuegia and I saw a huge bird fly over us, and saw
something weird. There was a jelly-like substance floating above the water.
We thought it was just goo from the sea until it grabbed on to the ship with
tentacles. Fuegia got Mister Darwin and some fishermen to catch the thing.
Mister Darwin advised us to step back. He told us the
thing was a jellyfish and there are many species; a lot are poisonous. So, they
carefully caught it, put it in a tank of water, and shut the lid. Observed carefully,
it was in a tank that it could swim around with a lot of room to spare. Fed a piece
of tuna once a day, it is thriving.
"Be careful with jellyfish when you're feeding them. You must
always make sure they don't prick you with their tentacles when you give them the
fish." We always keep the jellyfish high in his tank, for Poena's sake. I always
hold her in her blanket just in case it might prick her if she runs too close to
it. I am a bit worried that the tank might fall or that it might escape.
Uncle reassures me that it is going to be all right, but you
can never be so sure.
I don't know whether this is a great gift, but a doll for
Poena sounds like a nice Valentine's gift. She will have orange yarn for hair,
black buttons for eyes, the
mouth and nose are going to be sewn with thread and she'll have a nice pink dres
with a flower pattern on it.
Oh, I have to go...
Sincerely,
Mary
