Dear Diary,
My day started when I woke up early in the morning. Fuegia didn't want to get up.
"Can't I go back to sleep?" she asked. I said "No", and finally got her out of
bed. I woke Poena, too. Poena gave me a look that said, "I want to go back to
bed". I told her if she was a good little piglet and got up that she would have
enough time to vist her mommy before we went on shore. She perked up right
away. Fuegia finally perked up a bit, too.
"Well, we should get ready; we don't want to dissapoint
Poena."
First, we checked Poena's blister. "Looks like there is
no more pus." Then, we bathed Poena. "Some nice smelling soap," I said.
"And a bit of water," Fuegia said.
"Oink Oink!" Poena said.
"Hmmmmmm...," I said "Fuegia, where are the towels?"
"I think that they might be on the top shelf on
your side of the cabin" was the answer I got. Fuegia was right.
"A nice warm towel for little Poena." I said.
Then, Fuegia and I washed our faces, and then we
decided to have our hair not in a bun, since it could get stuck on a thorn.
"Maybe if we wore it down," suggested Fuegia,
"with a nice little barrette in our hair or somthing."
We decided on Fuegia's hairstyle first. "How about a Pollyana
knot for you and a Pollyana for me," I said.
Well, after that we got dressed in two of our not-so-fancy
dresses, and headed off. It was six o'clock in the morning and we were schuduled
to land at seven. As we took Poena to see Elfin, we noticed that the strangest
things were happening. Men were lining up with packs of supplies on their backs.
One man was carrying a tent. I really do hope that it isn't for staying over night
on the island.
We finally reached where the animals stayed. Elfin was
overjoyed to see Poena. She cuddled her, and licked her a bit. We stay for a half
hour at the animals' pens. When Janis started to feed them at six-twenty AM (early
breakfast) she let Poena have a small bowl of grains and after she was finished,
we told Elfin that we had to go and told her that we might bring Poena in the day
after tommorrow.
We went on deck when we saw that Uncle was very serious.
"We have a problem." he said, "One of the ships we were supposed to sail in has
a hole in the bottom." We will have to make two trips to carry all the supplies
and people to the island. I told him that we would travel in the first boat
(the one that didn't have a leak in it) and we could carry the supplies with
everyone in the first boat—even though he planned to have a few sailors in the boat that had the supplies and everyone else in the next boat, too.
It worked, but we spent most of the morning and into the
afternoon to figure out the boat problem. We drifted a little off course since
someone forgot to drop the anchor. It took us the rest of the day to travel
to the island and find a place to land and set up camp and eat (we missed
dinner). By the time we were done eating, it was dark. So we camped out in the
tents. Two to each of them. Fuegia and I shared a tent along with Poena. That
is where I am writing from.
Bzzzzzzzzzz. Mosquitoes are everywhere... I have to go to sleep.
