Dear Diary,
I would normally expect a sunny day. Not a wet one! Just a light bit of rain, though. Thank goodness. Fuegia woke about five minutes after I did. I was busy feeding Poena. The rats can't get her, I make sure of that. I can't be too sure with Mr. X. He's after Lucky (Janis's dog) and Sammy the cat (don't know who owns him). I am worried so much I never let her out of my sight. She is very well behaved. When she needs to go to the bathroom, I get out my chamber pot and she goes in that.
Mr. Darwin is not so grumpy and he ate. Why? Well he discoverd a fish that looks weird. A flat sort of fish. Guess who knew where she could find the name of the fish? If you guessed Poena, you are absolutely right! The second time! Well, guess what it is called? ...a flatfish. Well-suited name.
I ran into Hilot. He was carrying a box of nails. I was running because I had to get into the cook's place. Thyme had to be delivered and I offered to help. I'll get back on the subject later.
Well after we finished feeding Poena, we did our hair. We decided to dress our hair a bit. Fuegia was a bit clumsy. She said that she didn't sleep well last night. It was because of the animals. It appeared that all execpt Poena, Lucky, and Sammy were making a lot of noise. Since Fuegia's a light sleeper, she heard it, but I am the complete opposite, so I slept well. I did her hair first. Mine was done nicely for someone who didn't sleep well who was doing your hair.
I put on a nice clean dress (a plain one), a pair of boots, and for a good reason got out my parasol to go on deck. Poena got something good—a nice warm blanket to be snuggled up in while I kept her under the parasol. We went to breakfast. I had a little chat with Uncle. Here is what we said:
Uncle:     Mary, how do you like the trip so far?
Me:     Very nice.
Uncle:     I am terribly sorry we had to skip the Canary Islands.
Me:     That's okay, nobody could predict that we had to.
Uncle:     I see Mister Darwin is still seasick.
Me:     Yes, at least he is eating breakfast with us.
Uncle(smiling):     Yes, big improvement. Hope he doesn't want us to give him a chance to look at the fish were having to see what it looks like cooked.

   We both laugh.

Me:     Yes, I hope he doesn't.
Uncle:     Well, I hope he gets over being seasick. He has been getting up in the night nauseous and everything.
Me:     Well, I have to say since he doesn't usually come out of the cabin where he stays, he is very vulnerable to the sea sickness.
Uncle:     Yes, he is. Give what's left of your food to Poena, if you're not going to eat it.

When we were done, Fuegia and I ran through the rain with our parasols with Poena was in her blanket, sleeping. That is when we bumped into Hilot. The jolt woke Poena and she very unhappy that she was awoken from her nap like this. I gave her to Fuegia, and she was asleep again in a minute. I turned back to Hilot who was picking up nails.
   "I am sorry, I didn't mean it," I wailed.
   "Okay, just be more careful."
    "Alright."
I actually stayed in our cabin and drew and then, I stopped to go to the bathroom and eat and feed Poena. I am supposed to be asleep tonight.
