Sixteenth January, 1832

Dear Diary,
    We have arrived at Cape Verde today. I don't know what time it is anymore because during my fiasco with Poena I dropped the watch in one of the rooms. When I went searching for it, I found it had disappeared. I will have to investigate that later. Right now my focus is on trying to earn money for spending while on the island. I got a job at a pub during the day where I work for a free meal. I work there three hours a day at the pub and I also help deliver goods for local companies. This I hope this will get me enough money to buy a couple of nice souvenirs and also be able to sleep at an inn.
    On my first day working at the pub I have picked up a few phrases of Kriolu like:
