What Existed?

Can you imagine reading a story about two cavemen out foraging for food all day long? After a tough day where only a few nuts and berries were collected and no fish were caught, they come home to their cave and order out for pizza. It might make a cute commercial, but as a story, it would be unbelievable because we know that back in caveman times there were no phones, no pizza, and sadly, no pizza delivery service.
Okay, so if you were writing about cavemen, it would be easy to figure this out, but we're writing about 1832. What existed --and perhaps, more importantly, what didn't exist-- back then?
