Dear Diary,
While I was helping tie up the ship today to a docking station at Cape Verde, I was talking to the other helper and distractedly tied the wrong knot. As I walked away, I turned around and saw that the front end of the ship had started to drift out of the docking area toward the rocks at the edge of the cove. My knot had come loose! Oh No! All that held the ship to the dock was one line which could break at any time! I started yelling to the crew on board to take one of the small rowing boats and drop it into the water. I swam to the side of the small boat that had just been lowered into the water and jumped in with two other sailors. The rest of the crew had long poles and were trying to push away from the jagged rocks. The sailors in my boat quickly rowed me over to the untied line floating in the water. I grabbed the line and the two rowers started to row as hard as they could toward the dock. When we touched land, I quickly jumped out and started to tie my knot when the captain quietly asked for the rope and tied the knot the rest of the way, making sure it was good and tight. He took one look at me and walked away shaking his head. I donšt think Išll be showing my face for a while.
Ashamed,
Sipho
