I was born in Zimbabwe, Africa and moved to Miami, Florida at the age of two as a result of my dad's job offer as a stock investor in the banana market. My parents bought me a trampoline for my 5th birthday. An event I clearily remember as I broke my collarbone on my first flip. Five years later that trampoline cost my family our house and my dad's job (stress related firing) when my 'friend' broke his hip and his family sued mine for $1,000,000 for pain, suffering and negligence. The courts awarded his family $750,000. Needless to say, that was the end of my Olympic training.
We moved to an apartment and my mom had to get a job bartending at the local watering hole while I bagged groceries full time at Swahs. Dad eventually found a new job. Unfortunately mom and dad divorced when I was 15. At 16, I was so ready to find my own escape from what had been a nightmare for some time... |
