Fred and I woke up late in the day, after having curled up into a corner in the dark storeroom. The light was much better now, and I could see that the room wasnąt a half bad place for a stowaway to pick. It had hard wood floors, and walls too for that matter, and the barrels were stacked against the walls. The ceiling wasnąt quite tall enough to stand, though I could sit on one of the barrels without my head hitting the ceiling. I first moved the loose barrels against the walls, and started reading off the labels on the sides of them: beer, beer, beer, rum, candles, beer, rum, Emergency water, beer, Hammocks, beer, beer, beer, Food, beer, food, candles lighters, lanterns, food, beer, beer, stuffing, and about twenty more cases of beer.
I took out some candles, a lighter, and a lantern. I set them to the side and moved out some beer cases and a few crates to make a table, set up my hammock, and made myself a lunch of gruel and water. Fred tried some beer, though he ended up not liking it. Making myself at home, I set up my belongings around on the barrels. Feeling at home in this weird excuse of a life, I spent the rest of the day setting up some minor things, like shelves made out of lanterns and a table cloth from the sail cloth patches.
